Motorists, Equity & Unity Party
Published and promoted by the Motorists Equity & Unity Party, 123B Southfield, POLEGATE BN26 5LZ

The Motorists, Equity & Unity Party was launched in July 2004. Our aim is to help ensure that a reasonable proportion of the £400 billion returned to the Exchequer by the motoring community is used to improve the infrastructure in areas that have been neglected over the last 20 years in order that all parts of the UK can benefit fully from membership of the European Union.
We are made aware of the various edicts passed by Brussels controlling our own legislation, the most obvious being the fishing quotas that have decimated our fishing industry. We are now in the process of implementing various measures to combat global warming (CO2 emissions). The UK’s contribution to CO2 emissions amounts to less than 2% of the world total. In order to have any impact on the effects of these emissions the big 4, namely the USA, Russia, India and China must also introduce similar controls to those being advocated in this country. At the present time the USA doesn’t recognise the Kyoto agreement and the emerging economies are more concerned with the increase in GDP than any actions to stem CO2 emissions. The Chinese government forecast growth of 6.2% in the next year ! This is clearly of more concern to European manufacturing than our 2% emissions !
Perusing our website you will have come across our campaign section. In the South East we are particularly interested in promoting the widening and completion of the Honiton to Folkstone highway that was foreseen more than 30 years ago. So far we have dual carriageway for most of the A27 as far as the Lewes by-pass. The M.E. & U. Party are campaigning for the A27 to be completed to junction 12 on the M20, passing to the north of Eastbourne, Bexhill, Hastings, Rye and Hythe in order to provide a fast, safe highway, enabling easy access to the latter towns without the present nose-to-tail driving that is the norm, making journey times unnecessarily long and thereby inhibiting the development of businesses in the area that depend on good road communications. The provision of this highway will increase business to the region and encourage tourists crossing at Dover/Folkstone to use the coast road rather than the M20, bringing much needed business to the catering fraternity, producing jobs in that sector.
We are also actively campaigning for the upgrading of the A22 (Eastbourne to London) and the A272 traversing Mid Sussex. Much of these two highways can be widened to 3 lane, alternative overtaking with the minimum of expenditure, as opposed to the introduction of dual carriageways or motorways which are financially prohibitive. The longer that these improvements are delayed the higher the eventual cost. Thousands of new motorists pass their driving test each month and it is therefore essential that we tackle the problems of GRIDLOCK before it happens. Without these developments it is inevitable that traffic will become more congested. Is it not amazing that Fritz Lang’s film “Metropolis” [1927] (based on book by Thea von Harbou), has had such little effect on our road development, particularly around our towns and cities ? It would seem that cash is king and somehow or other we will muddle through !
Many of you, reading this page will be aware of the financial difficulties being faced by the Big 3 parties (Labour, Conservatives and Libdems) The fact is that democracy costs money ! We all want better roads, better schools, better hospitals etc... but without the organisations behind the scenes we would still be living in caves and going out hunting for our food on a daily basis. The Tesco, Sainsbury, Somerfield, Morrison’s of our world exist as a result of organising us human beings into enterprises. The motives are two-fold; one - to make a profit; two - to enable us, particularly the less able to be able to get the necessities of life without having to risk life and limb. We consider it reasonable for the companies to make a profit by making our lives easier. So it is with government. Political parties need support not only financially but also morally. The party manifestos help us to decide which party to vote for. Without financial support the parties would exist only in fragmentary fashion and we would be in a situation similar to Afghanistan where the war-lords govern their particular part of the country and the law would be similar to that witnessed in old US western films. We get what we are willing to pay for. Many appreciate all the advantages of civilised society but don’t wish to pay anything for the privilege. This takes many forms including not registering a vote at elections; tax avoidance whenever possible; and black market economies to name but a few. We at the Motorists, Equity & Unity Party also need finance in order to carry out our activities to carry the message to as many people inside and outside of politics. Without this communication process we would be like a blind man trying to make sense of the world. Pressure has to be put on the government in an attempt to steer it in a direction that is fair to all sectors of the community. One of the reasons for disaffection with politicians is the tendency, unless checked, to show preference to certain sections of the community, i.e. business interests or social interests at the expense of the other. In western Europe we have had the mixed economy over the past 50 years which has served us well. Mistakes have been made and we have to pay the price for those mistakes. The stronger the parliament, particularly the second house (House of Lords), the more likely that the legislation will be sound. Introducing the ‘guillotine’ (limited discussion time) and ‘The Parliament Act’, short circuiting the House of Lords vetting procedure is not the best way of conducting politics and has led to some distrust of the present government.

The M.E. & U. Party archives are available to all. We are seeking candidates to stand at Local, District & County level. Every assistance will be given to candidates during electioneering and after entering the fray.
We welcome all to join us in promoting better rules for the motorist, better infrastructure and, better government to ensure that laws that pass through the Houses of Parliament are good laws for the benefit of all, ensuring that our standard of living is maintained for the foreseeable future despite the awakening of the sleeping giants of the East !
"The real searcher after truth will not receive the old because it is old, or reject the new because it is new. He will not believe men because they are dead, or contradict them because they are alive. With him an utterance is worth the truth, the reason it contains, without the slightest regard to the author. He may have been a king or serf -- a philosopher or servant, -- but the utterance neither gains nor loses in truth or reason. Its value is absolutely independent of the fame or station of the man who gave it to the world." -- Robert G. Ingersoll - (1833-1899) - American political leader
