ROUNDABOUT FOR JUNCTION OF A22 & B2124 (Laughton)

The M.E. & U. Party has felt for some time that the junction of the A22 and the B2124 (Laughton) is extremely difficult to negotiate, particularly during the summer months.    Sadly someone has had to die to bring the situation to the attention of the authorities.    The modern method to deal with high traffic volumes is the roundabout or underpass.
This particular junction is clearly in need of a roundabout.   Mention was made of traffic lights in a local newspaper report but such controls are contra-indicated on roads with high volume since they result in nose-to-tail traffic which increases the risk of road accidents.   Roundabouts are a natural speed controller and help to ensure use of the roads for all, not just those on the main road.

WIDENING OF A27 (BEDDINGHAM  CROSSING TO POLEGATE),
A22 FROM HAILSHAM TO EAST GRINSTEAD & PARTS OF A272 ACROSS MID-SUSSEX

The M.E. & U. Party will be campaigning for the widening/marking of these major roads to 3-lane alternative overtaking making the roads faster and safer at one and the same time..   This will improve journey times and encourage industry to the areas made more accessible by these improvements.  The usual dotted central white line is a major contributor to road accidents.

EXTENDING A27 FROM POLEGATE THROUGH TO JUNCTION 11, M20 (3-LANE ALTERNATIVE OVERTAKING)- Relieving the A259 of heavy traffic, by-passing Bexhill,
St Leonards, Hastings, Rye, etc....

The M.E. & U. Party support the construction of a by-pass for the towns listed in the title.
We believe that it is not necessary to build expensive dual carriageways or motorways; these lead to the break-up of communities.  We advocate the 3-lane, alternative overtaking system that is used extensively in Northern France, and leads to a much safer environment without the extreme costs of the alternatives.  By opting for this system more money can be made available for extensive improvements throughout the country.   We feel that the improvements should be continued along a line leading to the Folkstone and Dover ferryports.   For this reason we recommend the construction of a new road across Romney Marsh in order to avoid the tortuous parts of the A259 passing New Romney, Dymchurch and Hythe.    These areas would benefit from the improvements since it will then become possible to have  appropriate junctions for all the coastal towns and villages on the A259 without putting them under the strain of heavy through traffic.   This will improve the living conditions of the local population whilst at the same time encouraging the growth of new business in the area, providing much needed employment.  There is clearly a need to compensate for the changes taking place in the Dover area.    The Calais - Dover crossing will always be the quickest, and therefore beneficial for the local economies if some of this traffic uses the southern route (Extended A27) , particularly tourists from Europe.

NATIONAL LOTTERY
The Jackpot continues to get smaller and smaller !
The M.E. & U. Party recommends the abolishing of the Roll-Over and distribution of the Jackpot to ticket holders with 5 + Bonus number when there are no winners with all six numbers.

This would enable all ticket holders to have two chances of winning: -
   1. The large amount if holding all six numbers or,
   2. When there is no overall winner/s a share of the divided Jackpot.    In many instances this would amount to a very useful £700,000.  (on average)

We estimate that the take-up would increase the Jackpot to £10 million if this change was introduced. (The Jackpot used to be £8 million on Saturdays - now down to £4 million)
