Recommended changes for the 21st century.
Taking the Private & Commercial road user into the 21st century.
*****The Motorists, Equity & Unity Party has been formed to help bring about a fairer society. Much of the road-rage that we hear about in the media is brought about as a direct result of our wide-reaching illogical laws relating to the motoring public.
The Road Traffic Act 1991 allows Councils to introduce Draconian measures to deal with the Parking of Vehicles. The M.E. & U. Party intend to move for the Act to be amended to differentiate between Fines for Non-Payment of parking and Fines for Late Return to Vehicle. At the time of writing this article the same Penalties are issued regardless of the situation, i.e. Non-Payment or Late Return. We will be recommending an initial factor of 10 X the initial parking fee (minimum £10) for Late Return during the first 30 minutes. Thereafter the present parking fines would become enforceable. In the London Area the fine for Late Return to Vehicle is £100 after 4 minutes. This is clearly unreasonable and the M..E. & U. Party will be actively pursuing a change to such practices
Use of Headlights at Night
The M.E. & U. Party will be actively engaged in campaigning for a change in the laws relating to the Use of Headlights at Night. The Party is dedicated to reducing accidents and the law on Headlight use is actually producing dangerous conditions not only for drivers but also for pedestrians.
It is not necessary for vehicles following one another to have Headlights on. A satisfactory solution in congested driving conditions is for following vehicle/s to have spotlights trained to the side of the road rather than headlights shining into the mirror of the vehicle in front.
The effect of lines of vehicles approaching from the opposite direction is to reduce the effectiveness of drivers reactions in an emergency. The barrage of lights actually reduces the effectiveness of the brain to cope with emergencies. ( An example where bright lights were used to reduce a subject’s capabilities was during interrogation of prisoners in WW11.) By limiting the use of Headlights to the vehicle in front and recommending use of spotlights for following vehicles the drivers concentration is vastly improved and the response in case of an emergency is far more likely to lead to a satisfactory response thereby reducing accidents on our roads.
The effect of Headlights on pedestrians is to limit their conception of the speed and distance of approaching vehicles and thereby making their decision to cross or not to cross the road more precarious.
