FREEWAY FOR BRIGHTON COAST ROAD
The M.E. & U. Party has proposed that the King’s Road/Kingsway be split into North and South with the South side becoming a “Freeway” with no access to or from this Freeway between the Brighton Pier and Grand Avenue. This would, at a stroke, separate local traffic including those seeking the town-centre car parks from through traffic.
This in turn would remove the queue of traffic from the Level down to the sea-front and beyond.
Traffic travelling Eastwards from the King Alfred direction (using the “Freeway”) would similarly benefit, by-passing traffic seeking local roads, hotels, or town-centre car parks.
The cost of this transformation would be between £500,000 and £1M. The traffic volume on the North side would be much reduced removing the need for Pelican Crossings. Zebra Crossings would be adequate for the northern (Local Traffic) side.
The Grand Avenue traffic lights could be replaced by a large roundabout, helping to reduce the pollution caused by stopping the main road traffic in order to allow, in most cases two or three vehicles to enter or leave Grand Avenue. These traffic lights are clearly not required and a roundabout would clearly provide a more efficient solution.
If you agree with our suggestions for a solution to the traffic problems of Brighton & Hove send us an e-mail and we will use this as part of a petition to the relevant town councillors of the City of Brighton & Hove. Yours views count.

CONGESTION CHARGING - An alternative solution ? (Odds & Evens)
The congestion in our towns and cities can be effectively reduced by a simple method that doesn’t entail the removal of money from the hard-pressed motorist’s pocket. It can be a voluntary system (where the congestion charge system is not in place) or an obligatory system in places such as Central London.
It is known as the “ONOD/ENED system”. This means that if you have an ODD numbered registration on your vehicle you do your shopping or non-urgent visits on an ODD date. Similarly, EVEN numbered registered vehicle owners carry out their shopping or non-urgent visits on EVEN dates.
This would produce a 33 % reduction in town traffic. A third more parking spaces in the high street or superstore !
In areas where the Congestion Charge is in operation vehicles would not be liable for the charge unless entering on inappropriate days, e.g. ODD number plate, EVEN date.
If you think this is a reasonable suggestion to enable the motorist to visit the Capital of our country without having to pay for the privilege please send an e-mail to us. This will be used in a petition to the relevant ministers and local authorities.(UK)

“Freeway” for Brighton & Hove The City of Brighton & Hove has suffered from Traffic Congestion for many years, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. It is particularly difficult to cross central Brighton from East to West with a very circuitous route with nose to tail traffic at every turn.
Chichester By-pass Improvements - Light Vehicle underpasses at busiest roundabouts to link coastal villages to Chichester to minimise hold-up of main road traffic, particularly during the summer season.
